Affordable housing company, Tor Homes, recently held an exhibition for residents living in the Culverdale area of Totnes.
The exhibition featured plans for the re-development of a 0.82 acre site which forms part of the Culverdale estate, Totnes.
The site currently has 9 bungalows built in the 1960’s which are now empty. The tenants have already transferred to other Tor Homes’ properties.
The plans for 19 much-needed new affordable homes include seven 3-bedroomed houses, five 2- bedroomed houses, five 2-bedroomed flats and two 1-bedroomed flats. All the properties will be for rent.
Howard Toplis, Chief Executive of Tor Homes explains: “There is a chronic lack of land and a huge need for affordable homes for local people in the Totnes area and these new homes will go some way to meeting that need.”
“The site for the new homes became available following extensive consultation with residents about the improvement of the area, over the last year. The opportunity will be on offer to anyone living in the remaining bungalows to move to one of the new homes. We will continue to work in close cooperation with the residents of Culverdale as the scheme moves forward.”
The new homes will all be designed to a standard set by the government which says that all homes must reach what is called a “Code for Sustainable Homes”. Tor Homes aims to reach the higher level of “four” which includes standards for household waste recycling, construction waste, water efficiency measures and reduced pollution. Amongst the features will be solar panels and measures to make the homes cheaper to run. Every property will have a garden and dedicated parking space.
