James Rowland from Ivybridge and Leanne Cross from Plymstock have taken their first step on the home ownership ladder and have moved into a two-bedroomed house. They are buying their property on a shared ownership basis.
Their home is part of a £4.85m development of 48 homes that the housing association is making available at Staddiscombe. There are 24 homes for rent and 24 for shared ownership.
When the key was handed over, James said: “We are thrilled to bits and are looking forward to spending our first Christmas in our new home.”
Nominations for the rented homes come from South Hams District Councils’ waiting list.
Under special planning requirements, the shared ownership properties have to be offered to people who have worked or lived continuously in Devon for three years.
Andy Sloman is Tor Homes’ Finance Manager. He explains: “Shared ownership is a great way for people to take that first step towards home ownership. They buy a share and rent the rest, and as their circumstances improve, they are able to buy more shares.”
There are still some shared ownership homes available and more will be built in the near future, including two and three bedroomed houses, two bedroomed coach houses and one and two bedroomed flats.
