Fact finding walkabouts are giving local people the power to improve their area for the better.
Tenants of Tor Homes and nearby residents are being invited on a series of estate walkabouts organised by the housing association.
The aim of the walkabouts is for Tor Homes’ staff and Board Members to meet up with tenants and local councillors to walk around their estate to identify where improvements could be made.
Zilpah Leahy, Housing and Customer Services Manager at Tor Homes said: “Our tenants and leaseholders have important knowledge that can only be gained from living on an estate.”
“Through these walkabouts, they can make sure we aren’t missing out on some of the issues that need addressing. Very often it is the little things that can make a big difference.”
“We would urge anyone who cares about where they live to come along on a walkabout. That way we can make sure we are listening to a wide cross-section of residents, so that we are better informed to make improvements that make a real difference.”
During the estate walkabouts, residents tour the estate, discuss areas of concern, log all the issues identified and produce a plan of action.
Throughout the year, Tor Homes staff spend a lot of time on the estates, checking communal areas and car parks for abandoned cars, fly tipping and graffiti.
Some tours have already taken place and more are planned over the coming months.
