Two South Hams women have been elected onto the Devon Tenants’ Forum (DTF) to represent the views of the 3000 tenants in the area.
Helen Robertson from Strete and Una Teal from Salcombe have already got to grips with their new role and have attended a meeting, bringing back information to share with other Tor Homes’ tenants.
Over 140 people have signed up to the Devon Tenant’s Forum. They hold 4 open meetings a year and act as a lobbying organisation on matters of concern to tenants such as proposed changes in tenancy agreements and benefits.
They also organise speakers on subjects of interest to tenants. Speakers have talked about families living with special needs, the Devon Pound Credit Union and recent animal legislation.
Helen Robertson said: “I was thrilled to have been elected and will do my best to represent the views of all the tenant of Tor Homes, particularly, those of disabled people. I am passionate about making our voices heard and will make sure that they hear us.”
Una Teal said: “I was delighted to have been elected to this forum. I think it is really important that those who perhaps are not able to attend meetings are kept up to date and I intend to bring back information which I think will be of interest and help to other Tor Homes’ tenants.
Both Helen and Una take an active part in the various ways Tor Homes consults with its tenants, including the technical forum where they give feedback on the building of new properties and looking at the housing association’s services and policies.
