Ways of getting involved

We like to give residents a big say on the services we deliver and in the management of their homes. We encourage resident involvement in lots of different ways, from meetings through to phone, postal or on line surveys. You can become involved as little or as much as you like and we always appreciate the time you give us. Arrangements can be made to reimburse transport and childminding costs if you attend meetings.

Our Involvement Web

About 640 of our tenants are already part of our Involvement Web and we hope more residents would like to register their interest. Several times a year we send out surveys to our members and the feedback is collated and discussed by the relevant forum before a report is produced for our Scrutiny forum and/or theOperations Committee.

Board Members

We have a Management Board made up of unpaid volunteers who are responsible for making decisions about the way Tor Homes is run. The Board is made up of local authority trustees, independent trustees and tenants, all equally represented. All tenants are eligible to stand for election to the Board.

Village Voice/Estate Contacts

We have a number of Village Voices/Estate Contacts who are simply volunteers who live in a street, on an estate or in a small village and are happy to be an additional method of communication between Tor Homes and our tenants. This scheme is particularly useful when there is no real need or desire to set up a residents association, and one or two interested people would like to help the community in which they live, by representing the views of tenants who perhaps do not feel comfortable speaking up for themselves.

The Contact person does not replace the existing ways of contacting Tor Homes i.e. calling our main switchboard or the Repairs Hotline, and we would still encourage our tenants to use the freephone number 0800 316 88 39 wherever possible. The Contact is simply an additional way in which information can be fed to and from our tenants.
