Arrears

Paying your rent on time is one of the most important conditions of your tenancy. You must let us know immediately if you are going away or if you are having difficulties paying your rent. The sooner we know about any problems, the sooner we will be able to help you.

Rent arrears are taken very seriously and we expect tenants to pay their rent on time or contact us and respond to our help and advice. This help might include

  • giving you the opportunity to discuss how you got into arrears
  • taking early action to contact you to prevent arrears building up
  • giving you advice on Housing Benefit and other benefits
  • arranging for debt counselling advice or other specialist advice
  • making an agreement for repaying arrears by reasonable regular repayments

We aim to help people out of their difficulties, but unfortunately there are times when we have to take court action which may result in a court granting us outright posession of your home, or a suspended possession order.
